Meet the Director
Miss Melissa’s love for dance began at the early age of 3 when her mom enrolled her in ballet class. She grew up dancing in the immediate area where her dedication to dance cultivated throughout the years. This led to her becoming an assistant teacher and, eventually, she began teaching her own classes. Miss Melissa has over 20 years of teaching experience in various areas which include: ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop. Miss Melissa has a calm and patient demeanor, which allows her to excel at instructing all age groups.
In addition to her years of teaching experience, she has received extensive training through Dance Masters of America and world renowned choreographers. Miss Melissa has also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work through Georgian Court College and a Master’s Degree in Social Work through Fordham University. She is currently a School Social Worker.
Finding a name for her studio was the missing piece in turning a lifelong dream of owning her own dance studio into a reality. Wave Dance Alliance was an idea that was created during a trip to Turks & Caicos, when she and her husband and friends spotted a boat called Wave Dancer. She wrote the name Wave Dance in the sand to be a constant reminder to begin her journey.
As a dance instructor, Miss Melissa feels it’s extremely important for her students to feel confident and free to explore their individual creativity in an inclusive, friendly environment. The studio will be a welcoming space filled with patience, understanding, and kindness. Miss Melissa is excited to share her love of dance with her students and eager to see her dream become a reality.
